I love reading and it is my hope to instill a love of reading in every student that comes across my path! I try to make sure that they can feel the excitement coming from me as I read each story. November has great read-alouds, and here are just a few of my faves!

One is a Feast for Mouse
Sometimes you come across a book, and you can’t believe that you haven’t heard of it before! This was exactly how I felt about this book because it is such a delight! It tells the tale about a little mouse who comes out after a Thanksgiving meal, hoping to create a feast for himself. The antics that ensue are hilarious! Let’s just say that something or someone is watching his every move, and he gets into some trouble!
Owls
After all of the non-fiction that we do during the month of October, my little ones are happy that we continue in that vein for November. We learn all about owls, and once again I find myself turning to the National Geographic Readers for little ones, because it definitely pulls them in!
The pictures are phenomenal and they are captivated by it all! If non-fiction isn’t your fave, I’m asking that you just dive in, I’m sure that you’ll find that you love it more than you think!
Turkeys
November is also known as turkey time because that’s when Thanksgiving rolls around! This is a non-fiction unit that I only began doing recently! I couldn’t believe that this was a topic that I had been overlooking. Once again we need to have a conversation about how yes, this animal is something that we end up eating from the dinner table! That always weirds them out, but then they shrug it off and we keep going!
Whistle for Willie
I have never run across a book by this author that I don’t love. This book is fabulous for teaching a lesson on perseverance, as well as reviewing other comprehension skills and strategies. I love that it shows Willie wanting to learn how to do something, but struggling while trying to learn.
Willie is a character that most of us can connect with because your students will have several things that they want to do, and they are continuously working on. This is just an all-around fantastic book.
November is definitely a feel-good type of month, and these read alouds make it even better! It truly makes learning so much fun, and I love to see their faces light up when it’s time to learn!
