4 Fun Read Alouds for March

4 fun read alouds for March. Perfect for kindergarten students!

It’s time to talk about read alouds for March! This month is when the world seems to come alive after the long slumber of winter. The days start to get longer, and there’s something about the coming days that make you want to get out of the house! It’s also the time when little ones start to get antsy, so I make sure to include as many fun read alouds as I can! Here are a few of my fave read alouds for March!

1. National Geographic Bees

Initially, I didn’t enjoy teaching non-fiction (probably because as a reader I love fiction), but as I saw how it captivated my students and they were deeply engaged in the learning that it brought, I changed my mind. Other than pumpkins, it’s at the top of my non-fiction lessons! That’s saying a lot! We learn all about the queen bee, worker bees, and drone bees, and we learn why I always say “don’t pick those flowers” at recess! Once they learn why they’re excited to tell me that they have to leave them for the bees!

2. Little Quack

Little Quack stays behind on the shore as his siblings and mom splash into the pond! It’s a pretty big pond, and he’s a little bitty duck! He’s too scared to go in, so he has a big decision to make! This is a nice book to make predictions with, and discuss conquering our fear to be brave! I love listening to students share when they’ve been afraid to do something, and what they did to get over that fear! Love those text-to-self connections!

3. My Lucky Day

This story is perfect to add to your read alouds for March! I never knew that pigs were so smart! It seems like they are always outsmarting someone who is out to get them! In this read aloud, there’s a piglet who just so happens to show up on the doorstep of a fox! The fox thinks that it’s his lucky day, and immediately makes plans to trap the little pig for dinner! Once again we make a few predictions before reading, and my students are always shocked by the ending!

4. Everything Spring

The pictures in this book are beautiful! I love to read this right before we go on Spring Break since it’s normally around the time that spring begins! It’s another National Geographic Kids publication, so you know it’s perfect for little learners! The text and pictures do a great job of describing what spring looks and feels like. Our five senses are definitely engaged with this text!
